What to do right now

Cannot drive on it

Do not run it flat. A few hundred yards on a flat tyre wrecks the wheel as well, and then you are paying for both.

Put the spare or the space saver on if you have one. No spare? Take the wheel off and bring just the wheel in. Not sure? Ring and we will tell you which.

Do I need to book

Ring first on 07821 794901. One number, and it goes to the person doing the job, not a call centre.

A two minute call tells you whether to come straight down or leave it an hour. That beats driving over on a flat and waiting.

Step one

Nobody knows their tyre size. That is normal.

It is stamped on the side of the tyre in numbers nobody ever explains. Crouch down, look at the wall of the tyre, and find a code like 225/45 R17. Here is what each part of it means.

A tyre sidewall showing the size code two two five, slash, four five, R seventeen, ninety four Y WIDTH PROFILE RIM LOAD + SPEED 225 / 45 R 17 94Y
Width
How wide the tyre is across the tread, in millimetres.
Profile
Sidewall height as a percentage of the width. Lower means a shorter, stiffer wall.
The letter R
R means radial. Every normal car tyre is one, so you can ignore it.
Rim
The wheel diameter it fits, in inches. The one number still in old money.
Load and speed
How much weight it carries and how fast it is rated for. Match what came off.
Close-up of the raised lettering moulded into the side wall of a car tyre.
This is the bit you wantRaised writing on the side wall. Crouch down and read it off.

Two other places the same code is printed: the sticker inside the driver's door shut, and the handbook. Still cannot find it, or the writing has worn off? Take a photo of the side of the tyre and send it over. We will read it for you.

Text a photo of the tyre

Step two

Build your size. Then ring and read it out.

Put your three numbers in and pick what you are after. You get a size card you can read straight down the phone, so the call takes thirty seconds instead of five minutes.

Fitting Mid-range new Quantity 1 tyre

Rough cost, fitted Guide only, not a quote

£65 to £85 per tyre, all in

This is a ballpark so you know what you are walking into. The real price depends on the make, the stock we have and what came off the car. Ring with the three numbers and you get a firm price before anything is touched.

Ask what it includes. Normally that is the tyre, fitting, a new valve, wheel balancing and taking the old one away. Get it confirmed and nothing gets added at the counter.

What we do

Tyres, and the jobs that come with them.

A tyre bay with a mechanic in it. Most of what stops you driving gets sorted in one visit. Cars, vans and motorbikes.

Tyres

  • New tyres, supplied and fittedBudget, mid-range and premium. Tell us what came off and we will match it or better it.
  • Part-worn tyresA used tyre with plenty of tread left. Marked, measured, then pumped up and checked for leaks. Chains mostly will not stock them. We do, and we do them to the standard at the bottom of this page.
  • Puncture repairRepaired where the standard allows it. Told straight when it does not.
  • Wheel balancingSo it stops shaking at seventy.
  • Motorbike tyresFitting and puncture repairs, same bay, same day.

Fleet and contract work

A van off the road is money off the round.

We sit on the M62 corridor at Risley, a minute from Junction 11 and a short hop from M6 Junction 21. That is why delivery and courier fleets use us. No fleet too big or too small. Vans go out the same door they came in.

One van or thirtyOff the round costs more than the tyre. Same door, same day.

Our own service list names InPost, FedEx, DHL and B&S Group among the fleets we look after. Parcel and courier work is the bread and butter here.

Ring, say it is fleet work, and you get straight to the person doing the job. No account manager, no portal, no ticket number.

Approved Envoy Tyre Dealer

  • Envoy

Envoy is a tyre brand we are signed up to supply, and it comes in budget, mid-range and premium. Tell us what is on the car now and we will price the same again or something better. Ring first so we can check stock before you drive over.

Why here

Six reasons, no speeches.

01

One number, and it is a mobile

07821 794901 is the only number we have. No switchboard, no queue, no options menu.

02

We do part-worns properly

Marked, measured, then pumped up and checked for leaks, to the 1994 regulations. If one fails the check it does not go on your car.

03

We do bikes

Motorbike tyres, servicing and repairs. Most tyre shops send bikes somewhere else.

04

Tyres and the mechanical side

Brakes, servicing, diagnostics, belts, exhausts. One trip instead of three.

05

Delivery fleets already use us

InPost, FedEx, DHL and B&S Group are on our service list. Delivery drivers cannot afford a slow garage, so we do not run one.

06

Where we stand

Two standards do the deciding. Not us.

Our part-worns are marked, measured, then pumped up and checked for leaks, to the 1994 regulations. Most on sale in the UK are not: TyreSafe inspected part-worns on sale and found 94 per cent were sold illegally. Punctures are the same story. There is a written rule for what can be repaired, and we work to it. Both rules are below in full, so you can hold us to them.

2mm across the full widthRight around the tyre, or it does not go on your car. That is the law, not our rule.
Read both rules in full

Standard A Motor Vehicle Tyres (Safety) Regulations 1994

Selling a part-worn legally

  • 1Permanently and legibly marked PART-WORN, in letters at least 4mm high.
  • 2Remoulded tyres carry their own marking instead: BS AU 144b to 144e, a European approval mark, or RETREAD moulded into the wall.
  • 3The original grooves still clearly visible in their entirety.
  • 4At least 2mm of tread, across the full width, right around the tyre.
  • 5No large cuts, no bulges, no lumps.
  • 6Nothing showing through: no exposed cord or steel.
  • 7Pumped up and checked for leaks before it is sold.

Standard B BS AU 159

When a puncture can be repaired

  • 1Only inside the central three-quarters of the tread. That strip has a name: the minor repair area.
  • 2Damage larger than 6mm across must not be repaired.
  • 3A hole in the side wall cannot be repaired. The wall bends most, so the patch works loose.
  • 4Same answer for the curved edge where the tread meets the wall, and the same reason.
  • 5Tyres built to be driven on flat are not normally repaired. The extra-stiff wall hides whether they were run flat and damaged inside.

6mm the largest hole
that can safely
be repaired

If yours falls outside this, we will say so rather than patch it and hope. A repair that lets go at seventy is not a saving.

1.6mm

is the legal minimum tread depth in the UK. Under it you risk up to £2,500 and three penalty points per tyre. Four bald tyres is a very expensive way to save a hundred quid.
